On a recent trip to Charleston, the weather was awful, raining, and yuck. But in my life never ever had been to Charleston, took my camera to take pictures. My Son drove, and I clicked away at the rain on the windows to the beat down carwash in a small town. The sites were plain and every day, and my Son found no pretty in anything. And I find pretty in everything.
We arrived in Charleston, a college school town to pick up my daughter from a school function, and it wasn't a pleasant pick-up. She was depressed, and just wanted to get home, not me. Checking this town out was first on my list before returning home.
All your average everyday things, like Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree, stood out. Then on the left was a wonderful small cemetery called Harmony Cemetery…ironically that is my daughter's name, and wanting to stop, only she didn't, Yes, the mom won. We turned the car around and my Son and I walked thru it, the head stones were amazing, even he agreed. Asked her to let me take a picture of her in front of the Sign, but she flatly refused. So the picture was taken with her brother, instead.
We also stopped at the haunted Carwash and took a picture, and wondered to ourselves if this was the place we wanted to detail our car. The turbine windmills were loud and tall, whipping in the rain storm sounded like a train. The little town restaurants, with unusual names reached out to grab me. The big farmhouses, and acres of farm land, not yet planted.
So all in all if you're out an about, consider turning the car around, to look at something that you haven't seen before. There are a lot of interesting things in our world just around the corner. Most of us are in a rush, Most of us don't get vacations, and Most of us find pretty things in the normal.
