How about a 2 weeks Notice…

All or most of us have had a job, how many have you quit without giving a notice? The part that I don’t like is this puts the rest of the people you work with in a bind.

This story is about a girl that I work with, have worked closely for 2 years now. Took her under my wing and I was her last chance of keeping this job, taught her a lot. Let me explain, the place I work is a restaurant, a very busy one. The quarters are close, this restaurant is in a house, with several employees and everyone has a job. We all work 6 days a week, and really there isn’t someone to do someone else’s job, if you miss a day it puts the whole system in a bind.

Last week my daughter told me she saw on face book that she had an interview at the place she worked. Asking the girl if this was true and quickly saying no. Actually I wouldn’t have been upset if she did, I would have been happy for her. Brushed it off, thinking no more about it, she worked as hard as she ever did. Went over the top to make me happy, doing things she had never done before. But again I brushed it off.

Come Monday this week she asked someone to work for her in the morning, trading hours with them. It was Okayed, and they worked it out. At Lunch my daughter came to the drive thru, and couldn’t wait to tell me that the girl was at her job today working! I looked at the slip that she had asked off to take her Grandma to the doctor. This was interesting news, to me but kept it to myself.

Then Tuesday she called in sick, deathly ill, and had to go to the emergency room, and couldn’t work her morning or lunch shift. It was time to tell the owners what I knew; they were surprised to say the least. They called out where she had the new job, because they knew the human resource manager. And it was confirmed she did have a job there. On Wednesday, she tried to call in sick again, and the owner went over the top. The things he said to her can’t be repeated here, he did ask her if she planned to call in sick all week, and work on Saturday here when she was off there. She said she just didn’t know how to tell them. He said you could have at least given us a notice so we could make plans for a replacement.

He was truly very upset, so upset he went to her house to tell her about all the chances he had given her, for the times she was late to the times she screwed up many orders, he took her side. She had nothing to say, nothing at all. He also told her no one better call for a reference on her again, he would tell them how back sliding she was, and how much of a liar she was. Serious words, but the owners of this restaurant are like family, if you need and they have they will give it to you. They treat all their employees with respect and care for each of us.

This week have been very hard on me, the drive thru is a very demanding place to work, people are on their lunch hours, want their food fast, and right. And many of my co-workers haven’t worked down there, and don’t know where things are. Like I said before, everyone has a job, to keep this restaurant running like clockwork. So when a piece of the puzzle is missing, it takes a toll on the rest of us.

She could have told me the truth, and given me a 2 weeks’ notice, another co-worker said maybe she did it because she wasn’t sure she would like the job. But what was the chance of my daughter knowing her and seeing her there, the place employees 200 people.

My Mom tells me everything happens for a reason, so what was the reason for this? Should she have given a 2 week Notice?Thumbs down
